Fish Farming

Location: Thodupuzha

In Cel-Agro, the Biofloc Fish Farming system was developed to maintain a pollution control over the aquatic animal production. The availability of water is a limiting factor of the total production cost of fish farming and biofloc wastewater management is the perfect solution for the dilemma. The principle of the technique is the generation of Nitrogen by maintaining a higher concentration of Carbon : Nitrogen ration and thereby acquire the dual advantages of effective waste management as well as the production of proteinaceous feed to the fish.

The working of biofloc system can be explained briefly as follows: Heterotrophic bacteria is the main component of the biofloc system. The heterotrophic bacteria consumes the nitrogenous waste (ammonia) produced by the fish and in turn converts them into protein which can be used for the growth of the fish itself.
